Norwegian Olympic Ski Jumper Johansson Retires After Suit Scandal

Norwegian ski jumper Robert Johansson, the 2018 Olympic champion, has announced his retirement amid a cheating scandal involving manipulated competition suits at the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim. Although Johansson himself was not found to have tampered with his suit, he was suspended by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) along with other Norwegian team members, preventing him from competing in his planned farewell events. The scandal involved Norwegian jumpers using banned tape on their suits to gain extra stability and distance during jumps. Johansson expressed frustration, feeling he was suspended solely because of his nationality, despite his suit being checked and cleared multiple times. Throughout his career, Johansson won multiple Olympic and World Championship medals, including gold in the team events and individual bronzes. He stated that while the end of his career was not as he had hoped, he is content with his decision to retire.
