Storm Darragh Leaves Thousands Without Power
Storm Darragh has caused widespread power outages across the UK and Ireland, affecting approximately 86,000 homes in the UK and 395,000 in Ireland. The storm, which has brought gusts exceeding 90mph, prompted the Met Office to issue a rare red alert for parts of Wales and southwest England, warning three million residents to stay indoors. In Wales alone, over 33,000 homes are currently without power, and emergency alerts were sent to mobile phones in the affected areas. Meanwhile, ESB Networks in Ireland reported significant outages, with restoration efforts expected to take several days. The storm is also accompanied by heavy rain, leading to more than 100 flood warnings across the UK. Weather warnings remain in place as conditions are predicted to worsen throughout the weekend.
