Rapper Chino XL Dies by Suicide at 50

The family of rapper Chino XL, born Derek Keith Barbosa, has confirmed his death by suicide on July 28, at the age of 50. The Ventura County Medical Examiner's office lists the official cause of death as asphyxia due to ligature hanging. Chino XL had long battled depression and was diagnosed with congenital heart failure in 2020 and stage 4 prostate cancer earlier this year. His family shared this information during Suicide Awareness Month, hoping it might help others struggling with similar issues. Chino XL’s daughters described him as a source of strength and comfort to many, reflecting on the global outpouring of love and support they've received. A posthumous album was planned for December, but an illegal leak has disrupted its release schedule.
