Peruvian Gang Leader Arrested in New York

Gianfranco Torres-Navarro, the leader of the Peruvian gang 'Los Killers', was arrested in New York after being wanted for 23 murders in Peru. He entered the U.S. illegally on May 16 and was initially released by Border Patrol, only to be located and detained after U.S. authorities received a tip about his criminal background in July. Torres-Navarro, who is also known as 'Gianfranco 23', is accused of leading a violent organization involved in extortion and contract killings. His girlfriend, Mishelle Sol Ivanna Ortíz Ubillús, who is described as his lieutenant, was also arrested. Both are now in custody pending immigration hearings, with ICE emphasizing their potential threat to public safety.
