Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Held in Brooklyn

The 23rd annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk took place in Brooklyn, honoring the legacy of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller who sacrificed his life on September 11, 2001, while saving others. This year's event is expected to draw nearly 40,000 participants, including first responders and their families, retracing Siller's footsteps through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to the World Trade Center site. Additionally, the event honors NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports families of first responders, began this event in 2002 with just 1,500 participants, and it has since grown significantly. Participants expressed a strong sense of community and commitment to remembering the sacrifices of those lost on 9/11 and beyond. The event serves as both a tribute and a way to support ongoing assistance for families affected by 9/11-related illnesses.
