Royal Mail Plans 20,000 Temporary Workers UK Christmas Surge
Royal Mail is set to recruit 20,000 temporary workers for the 2025 Christmas period to manage the increased parcel and mail volume during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the festive season. These roles include 15,000 mail sorting positions spread across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland; 3,000 delivery and collection jobs; and 2,000 temporary HGV and MGV driver roles. The recruitment covers two parcel hubs, four seasonal parcel sorting centres, and 37 mail centres nationwide, with four additional seasonal sorting centres established in Atherstone, Milton Keynes, Northampton, and Daventry. The seasonal positions will run from late October 2025 through early January 2026, offering competitive pay, shift work, and no prior experience requirement. Royal Mail is also adding 6,800 hire vans and hiring over 12,000 road haulage contractors to support the increased workload. Jamie Stephenson, Royal Mail's interim chief operating officer, emphasized the company's dedication to ensuring timely and careful delivery during the busiest time of the year by investing heavily in extra resources.
