Stockholm has launched the world's first electric hydrofoil ferry, the Candela P-12 'Nova', offering a sustainable and efficient alternative for urban water transport. The ferry, which skims a meter above the water, can travel 15 kilometers to the City Hall in just over 30 minutes, effectively halving traditional ferry commute times while consuming 80% less energy. This innovation is part of a nine-month pilot project aimed at reducing car usage and promoting public transportation. The Nova's advanced hydrofoil technology minimizes water friction and wake, allowing it to operate at high speeds within city limits. Candela's CEO, Gustav Hasselskog, described the launch as a 'paradigm shift for urban transport,' highlighting its potential to transform how cities utilize waterways. The ferry will initially serve a limited route, with plans to expand if the pilot proves successful.
