Team Brazil Wins E1 Lagos; Lagos First African Host

Lagos became the first African city to host the UIM E1 World Championship, a milestone praised by President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu as a boost for clean energy, the blue economy and maritime innovation. Team Brazil, led by Timmy Hansen from pole, won the E1 Lagos GP — their first victory of the season — beating Team Blue Rising and Team Drogba and scoring 38 points to move to 89 overall. Rafael Nadal’s Team Rafa had earlier taken pole in qualifying and leads the championship with 136 points, one ahead of Team Brady on 135, with the Lagos round serving as the penultimate race before the Miami finale. The E1 series, co‑founded by Alejandro Agag and Rodi Basso, features all‑electric RaceBird hydrofoils and promotes cleaner, high‑speed marine transport. Alongside the races, the E1 Championship Fashion Showcase and Experience Lagos humanitourism campaign — organized by Maryam Elisha and Tomi Salami and featuring designers such as Rikaoto by Me at venues on Victoria Island including the Lagos Oriental Hotel — brought international beauty queens and designers together to combine sport, fashion, culture and environmental advocacy, and organizers said the events could spur jobs and maritime infrastructure investment while positioning Lagos as a sustainable-technology hub.
