Thief Steals 21 Manhole Covers From Orpington Street Overnight

A hooded man was caught on doorbell and CCTV footage lifting manhole covers in the middle of the night on Edgewood Drive in Orpington, Greater London, with residents saying a total of 21 covers were taken and at least two captured on video around 1am. Neighbours told local media they were baffled and suspect the covers were being taken for scrap metal or resale, sharing photos and warnings in a neighbourhood WhatsApp group. Thames Water said it investigated but confirmed the road is private and the management company is responsible for replacing the covers; residents reported the covers were replaced later the same day. The Metropolitan Police had not immediately confirmed whether the thefts were reported or are being investigated.
