Buku Abi Alleges R. Kelly Abuse Impacted Mental Health

Buku Abi, daughter of R. Kelly, has alleged that her father sexually abused her when she was 8 or 9 years old, leading to severe mental health struggles, including multiple suicide attempts. In the docuseries 'R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey,' she described her experience of checking into a psychiatric hospital after confiding in her mother, Andrea Kelly, about her distress. Abi recounted her time in the hospital, which lasted about two and a half weeks, and her subsequent outpatient care for depression. She also shared a traumatic incident where she pretended to be asleep while R. Kelly allegedly touched her. Despite reporting the abuse to authorities, no charges were brought against R. Kelly at the time. Currently, he is serving a lengthy prison sentence for multiple sexual abuse convictions.
