Kiplimo breaks half-marathon world record, finishes in 56:42

Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo has set a new world record for the men's half marathon with an astonishing time of 56 minutes and 42 seconds at a race in Barcelona, becoming the first athlete to break the 57-minute barrier. This record surpasses the previous mark of 57:30 set by Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha in 2021 by 48 seconds, marking the greatest single improvement in the event's history according to World Athletics. Kiplimo attributed his success to ideal weather conditions, stating, 'It has been the perfect race,' and expressed his excitement about achieving this milestone. In addition to his half marathon performance, he also set a world best for 15 kilometers during the race. Kiplimo, a two-time world cross-country champion, plans to focus on his marathon debut in London on April 27. His record-breaking achievement follows a significant career that includes a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
