Survey Reveals Trends in Christmas Traditions

For example, 75% of those who enjoy Elf on the Shelf or Christmas Eve boxes are following American practices, while gift exchanges on Christmas Eve suggest a French influence, and participation in lotteries like El Gordo points to Spanish roots. Research indicates that 50% of 18 to 24-year-olds are likely to adopt new traditions, contrasting sharply with only 5% of individuals over 65, with younger adults favoring modern alternatives such as barbecuing on Christmas Day or donating to charity. Over half of the respondents hope their children will continue these cherished customs, which they have upheld for an average of 32 years. Despite the UK’s cold climate, 51% of participants expressed a preference for celebrating in colder weather, with many asserting that warmer locales wouldn't hold the same festive spirit. A spokesperson for Lottoland noted the importance of these traditions in fostering family connections and continuity during the holiday season.
