Steven Knight Involved in Planned Birmingham City Stadium and Sports Quarter Project

Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders and lifelong fan of Birmingham City FC, is playing a key role in the design of the club's new stadium. The stadium project is a collaboration between British designers Heatherwick Studio and Kansas-based architects MANICA, aiming to create a venue that honors the club's 150-year history and Birmingham's industrial heritage. The new stadium is part of a larger Sports Quarter development on a 48-acre site in east Birmingham, which includes plans for 1,700 new homes and creative workspaces. The project was announced at the Regional Investment Summit with support from local leaders and the UK government, which is also funding a new tram route to improve transport links to the area. Birmingham City FC chairman Tom Wagner emphasized that the development celebrates both the club and the city as a whole, aiming to make a globally recognizable landmark rooted in local culture. Knight expressed pride in representing the club's culture and history, contributing storytelling and enthusiasm to the design process alongside the architects.
