Afghan sprinter Kimia Yousofi, who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took over in 2021, has been selected to compete in her third Olympics at Paris 2024. Yousofi, now based in Australia, will represent the 'stolen dreams and aspirations' of Afghan women who are deprived of basic rights, including education and the freedom to participate in sports. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced a gender-equal six-person team for Afghanistan, although the Taliban does not recognize Yousofi and her female teammates. This marks the first time Afghanistan will have three female athletes at the Olympics. Yousofi expressed gratitude to those who supported her journey, including the Australian Olympic Committee and the exiled Afghan Olympic officials.
