Lennard Maloney has officially transferred from FC Heidenheim to FSV Mainz 05, signing a contract that extends until 2028. The 25-year-old American midfielder, who played a crucial role in Heidenheim's promotion to the Bundesliga, is seen as a perfect fit for Mainz, according to sporting director Niko Bungert. Maloney expressed excitement about joining Mainz, describing it as a 'great fit' after a positive meeting with the club's management. His move comes after Heidenheim opted to exclude him from match-day squads due to his expressed desire to leave, with the club now focusing on securing his replacement. This transfer marks Mainz's first signing of the January window as they aim for a European finish this season. Maloney has also earned two caps with the U.S. men's national team since switching his allegiance from Germany.
