Dutch Drug Trafficker Marco Ebben Killed in Mexico

Marco Ebben, a notorious Dutch drug trafficker once topping Europol's 'Most Wanted Fugitives' list, was shot dead in Atizapan de Zaragoza, near Mexico City. Ebben, convicted for smuggling 400 kg of cocaine from Brazil to the Netherlands, had faked his own death to evade capture. He was sentenced in absentia to over seven years in prison in 2020 but fled and was believed to be hiding in Mexico under a false identity. His links to the Sinaloa Cartel and a suspected murder in East London had recently intensified international efforts to apprehend him. Ebben's murder is suspected to be a hit by a rival gang amid ongoing cartel turf wars. Mexican authorities confirmed his death, identifying his body found with multiple bullet wounds between parked cars at a residential complex.
