Man Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Shooting

Daniel Garcia, a 52-year-old resident of Schaumburg, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting his relative, Kellie Barnett, 50, whom he mistook for an intruder on Christmas morning. The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. at Garcia's home on Carlisle Court, where Barnett was staying overnight. She suffered a gunshot wound to the torso and was pronounced dead at Saint Alexius Medical Center shortly after the shooting. Officers recovered a 9mm Glock semi-automatic handgun from the scene. Garcia, taken into custody for questioning, is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing on December 27.
