Miami LB Adarius Hayes Faces Three Vehicular Homicide Charges After Fatal Crash
Miami Hurricanes linebacker Adarius Hayes was arrested and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury following a May 10 crash in Largo, Florida, that killed a 78-year-old woman and two children aged 4 and 10. Hayes was driving a Dodge Durango at nearly 79 mph in a 40 mph zone, making aggressive and reckless lane changes just seconds before colliding with a Kia Soul that was lawfully making a left-hand turn. The impact ejected the two children from the Kia, who were pronounced dead at the scene, while the elderly driver died in the hospital the next day; a front-seat passenger survived with serious injuries. Police cited surveillance footage, witness statements, and vehicle data that showed Hayes made dangerous maneuvers, including crossing three lanes without signaling, which directly caused the fatal crash. Hayes turned himself in, was booked into Pinellas County Jail, posted a $350,000 bond, and has been indefinitely suspended from all athletic activities by the University of Miami. Hayes was a sophomore and had played 12 games in 2024, primarily on special teams, with four tackles and one interception.
