Greece Ranks Second in 2025 Blue Flag Awards

Greece ranked second globally in the 2025 Blue Flag awards, with 623 beaches, 17 marinas, and 17 sustainable tourism boats recognized for their adherence to strict environmental and safety standards, accounting for 15% of all Blue Flag-certified beaches worldwide. Spain retained the leading position, while Halkidiki and Crete were the top regions in Greece for awarded beaches. Ireland also saw a record 89 beaches and 10 marinas receive Blue Flags, with Kerry having the most Blue Flag beaches at 15. Wexford in Ireland was highlighted for its six Blue Flag beaches, two marinas, and a record 10 Green Coast Awards, given for clean environments and natural beauty. The Blue Flag awards aim to promote environmental awareness and sustainable coastal tourism. The 2025 awards ceremony in Ireland emphasized the contributions of volunteers and local environment teams.
