Tragic Gun Incidents Involving Young Children

Tragic incidents involving young children and firearms have recently occurred in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Fern Creek, Louisville, Kentucky. In Baton Rouge, a 5-year-old boy named Joshua Kelly Jr. died after months in hospice from a self-inflicted gunshot wound he sustained at age four while playing with a modified handgun, and his mother was arrested for improper supervision. In Fern Creek, a 3-year-old girl died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at an apartment complex on Overbrook Woods Place. She was transported to Norton Children’s Hospital but did not survive her injuries. The Louisville Metro Police Department is actively investigating the case, with all parties accounted for.
