The Supreme Court has stayed an Allahabad High Court order directing the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a fresh selection list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers, halting the annulment of previous selection lists from June 2020 and January 2022, which included 6,800 candidates. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued notices to the state government and other parties, with hearings scheduled for the week of September 23. The High Court had revised its earlier order, stating that reserved category candidates qualifying for the general category should be migrated accordingly. The Apna Dal (S), a BJP ally, has urged the government to support reserved category candidates, accusing the UP government of treating them unfairly. The High Court had also recommended that existing assistant teachers be allowed to complete the academic session to avoid disrupting students' education.
