Simona Halep Withdraws from Australian Open

Simona Halep has officially withdrawn from the 2025 Australian Open and the ASB Classic in Auckland due to recurring pain in her knee and shoulder, following her participation in an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi. The two-time Grand Slam champion, currently ranked 877th, announced her decision on social media, expressing disappointment over the interruption of her comeback after a lengthy doping suspension. Halep had received wildcards for both tournaments but decided it was best to delay her season's start after consulting with her team. She last played in 2022 and hasn't participated in a Grand Slam since then. Halep plans to compete next at the Transylvania Open in her home country, starting February 3. The Australian Open qualifying rounds begin on January 6, with the main draw starting January 12.
