£3m Takeover Saves Historic Inveraray George Hotel, Preserves 43 Jobs
The George Hotel, a historic 24-room boutique hotel in Inveraray, Argyll and Bute, has been saved from administration through a £3 million rescue deal by Fyne Hospitality, co-owned by Charlie Maclachlan and Sam Wignell. The takeover preserves 43 full and part-time jobs and maintains the hotel's legacy as a beloved local landmark with deep ties to the community. The hotel, owned by the Clark family for seven generations and in operation for around 165 years, had entered administration due to historic debts that impacted cash flow. Administrators from Begbies Traynor managed the sale after a marketing campaign attracted 51 interested parties across the UK, with Fyne Hospitality emerging as the successful bidder. Maclachlan and Wignell emphasized their commitment to preserving the heritage and enhancing the guest experience to keep the hotel a celebrated destination. The administrators expressed gratitude to the Clark family, staff, and local community for their support during the challenging process.
