Gogo Begins North America 5G In-Flight Network Flight Testing
Gogo is currently conducting flight testing for its next-generation 5G air-to-ground (ATG) connectivity network across North America, utilizing a Pilatus PC-24 test platform and flying on alternate days to validate the system’s capabilities. The testing program involves progressively complex procedures, starting from basic connections and handovers to fully loaded application tests such as video calling, streaming, and internet browsing on multiple devices simultaneously. Flights are taking place in regions including eastern Colorado, Nebraska, Chicago, New York, and Miami, with ground teams monitoring the data closely to ensure the network's performance aligns with prior ground testing and performance models. The 5G chipset, delivered to Gogo’s partner Airspan earlier this year, has already been validated on the ground, and the company expects to complete 40 to 50 hours of flight testing over the coming weeks before submitting for FAA certification. This testing phase is critical as Gogo prepares for a potential Q1 2026 commercial launch, aiming to enhance its in-flight internet service amid significant infrastructure investments and pressure on its stock. CEO Chris Moore emphasized the methodical, step-by-step approach to ensure readiness for the 5G product launch, which is seen as vital for reversing the company's current financial trajectory.
