Yorkshire Housing Associations Adopt New Regional Affordable Homes Standard

Several housing initiatives and standards in Yorkshire and North Yorkshire aim to address the critical need for affordable, quality homes. Yorkshire Housing completed the £20 million Bridgewell development in Spofforth, delivering 72 affordable homes with a tenure-blind design and sustainable features like electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Manningham Housing Association opened the £5 million One Meadow development in Eccleshill, featuring energy-efficient homes with a minimum energy rating of B, continuing its mission to support local communities, especially the BME population. Meanwhile, the York and North Yorkshire Housing Partnership, along with local councils, adopted a pioneering minimum quality standard for affordable homes to ensure they meet national space, accessibility, insulation, and local needs criteria, aiming to improve the quality and marketability of section 106 affordable homes. Concurrently, the UK government launched a consultation on extending the Decent Homes Standard to the private rented sector, proposing updated requirements to ensure homes are free from hazards, damp, and mould, with modern facilities and enhanced security measures. These efforts collectively reflect a concerted push to improve the quality, sustainability, and accessibility of affordable housing across the region.
