Japan Records 3.428 Million August Arrivals

Booking.com data for the first half of 2025 show Japan remains Asia’s leading outbound search destination—appearing in searches in more than 70% of examined markets—with Tokyo and Osaka consistently ranking highly and Fukuoka rising in regional popularity. The Japan National Tourism Organization reported a record 3.428 million international arrivals in August 2025, a 16.9% year‑on‑year increase, with China, South Korea and Taiwan among the top source markets. China has been the strongest driver overall, with over 6.7 million Chinese visitors in the first eight months of 2025. A weak yen has encouraged higher spending by Chinese tourists on luxury goods and wellness experiences, lifting Japanese retail and hospitality. Strong domestic tourism growth in other Asian markets (notably Vietnam, India and Malaysia) is reshaping regional travel even as interest in Japan grows.
