Teen Accused of Killing Lily Peters Seeks Venue Change

Carson T. Peters-Berger, a 17-year-old charged with the murder of 10-year-old Lily Peters, is seeking to move his trial out of Chippewa County due to concerns about the fairness of the proceedings amid extensive media coverage and public sentiment surrounding the case. His attorney argues that community memorials and campaigns for Lily create a bias against the defendant, making it unlikely to find impartial jurors locally. Peters-Berger faces serious charges, including first-degree intentional homicide and sexual assault, stemming from the brutal killing that occurred in April 2022 when he was just 14. A motion hearing regarding the venue change is set for June 9. The Wisconsin Court of Appeals has already ruled that Peters-Berger will be tried as an adult, despite defense attempts to have the case moved to juvenile court. If convicted, he could face a mandatory life sentence.
