Thunder to End Paycom Arena Deal in 2028
Paycom and the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to end their arena naming rights agreement when the new $1 billion arena opens in 2028, at which point the Thunder will seek a new naming partner. The current Paycom Center will retain its name for the next three Thunder seasons, after which it will close. The new arena, built on the former Cox Convention Center site with demolition already underway, will be funded by a voter-approved 72-month, one-cent sales tax, MAPS 4 funds, and contributions from Thunder ownership. The facility aims to offer modern amenities currently missing from the existing arena. The announcement aligns with Mayor David Holt’s unveiling of the arena’s conceptual designs during his State of the City address. The Thunder have the option to purchase the Paycom Center property for future development, though no decisions have been made yet.
