Nationwide 9/11 Memorial Events Held

Communities across the United States commemorated the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with various ceremonies, memorials, and events to honor the lives lost and the heroism displayed on that day. Hurlburt Field Fire Department and other military units held a remembrance ceremony to pay tribute to the 441 first responders who perished. In Alaska, the Anchorage Fire Department received the United States Honor Flag, a symbol of national pride and sacrifice. Memorial stair climbs were organized in several locations, including Meridian, Mississippi, and Georgia Southern University, to symbolically replicate the efforts of first responders who climbed the World Trade Center stairs. Additionally, a new exhibit in Pentagon City displayed never-before-seen images from 9/11, capturing the bravery of the first responders. People in Sewell, N.J., remembered victims through personal stories and community tributes.
