Indianapolis Colts CEO Kalen Jackson Advances Mental Health Advocacy Nationwide

The legacy of mental health advocacy is being carried forward by two distinct families who have experienced personal loss and challenges. Kathy Wesley from Madison County honors her late son Kevin Elliot, who died by suicide in 2023 after struggling with physical and mental illnesses, by advocating for mental health awareness, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, urging open communication and support for those struggling. Meanwhile, Kalen Jackson, daughter of the late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, leads the family initiative "Kicking The Stigma," which aims to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health disorders and expand access to services. Since its inception in 2020, the Colts have donated over $30 million to mental health nonprofits, reflecting the family's commitment to the cause. Jackson, who openly discusses her own anxiety, emphasizes changing cultural conversations to reduce prejudice and improve support systems, insurance coverage, and workplace policies related to mental health. She will be honored with the “Sports Visionary of the Year” Award by Project Healthy Minds for her leadership in mental health advocacy, continuing her father's mission to inspire and encourage others.
