Two Punjab Professors Arrested for Bribery

The Himachal Pradesh Police's Vigilance Bureau has arrested two Punjab-based pharmacy professors, Rakesh Chawla and Puneet Bansal, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3.5 lakh during an inspection for the Pharmacy Council of India at a pharmaceutical institute in Kangra. The professors were found with the cash, which they could not explain, leading to suspicions of corruption. They were detained following a tip-off and a case has been registered against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Both professors, affiliated with Baba Farid University and Central University, had inspected the Sai Baba Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, where they are suspected of accepting undue advantages for favorable inspection reports. Additionally, their driver has also been arrested in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing as the professors were remanded to three days of vigilance custody.
