Cierre Wood, a former NFL running back, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2019 murder of his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter, La'Rayah Patra Nicole Lamont Davis. Wood, 33, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse, accepting an Alford plea which allows him to maintain his innocence while acknowledging sufficient evidence for conviction. The child was found with severe injuries, including over 100 bruises and multiple broken ribs, indicative of prolonged abuse. Wood will be eligible for parole after 10 years, in addition to serving a consecutive sentence for child abuse. The child's mother, Amy Taylor, has also been sentenced to life in prison for her role in the abuse and death. The case highlights the tragic consequences of domestic violence and child abuse, as noted by prosecutors during the sentencing.
