Varied Halloween: Gusts, Showers and Freeze Risk
Local forecasts show Halloween night will be mostly cool and broadly favorable for trick-or-treating across many U.S. regions, with dry conditions expected from Arkansas through Houston and across much of the Midwest and Great Lakes. Strong low pressure will produce gusty winds in parts of northern New England—gusts up to about 50 mph are possible tonight—but winds should ease and skies clear overnight. A separate system will bring clouds and scattered late‑afternoon to evening rain showers Saturday in some areas (for example parts of the Mid‑South/West Tennessee), though widespread severe storms are not expected. Cooler air follows Sunday, with frost likely Sunday night and a freeze possible for some inland locations by Monday morning. Regionally, Alaska saw an unusually warm October, and long‑term warming trends have made some Halloweens warmer in parts of the Southwest and elsewhere.
