More Charges Filed in Ely Riots Case

Following the deaths of teenagers Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, in an e-bike crash on May 22, 2023, tensions between local residents and police escalated into riots in Ely, Cardiff. A total of 42 individuals have now been charged in relation to the unrest, with 11 additional suspects, including ten adults and one youth, set to appear in court on January 22, 2025. The initial incident occurred after CCTV footage showed a police van following the teenagers moments before the crash, leading to accusations against the police. The riots resulted in injuries to dozens of officers and significant property damage. Jenny Hopkins, chief crown prosecutor for CPS Cymru-Wales, emphasized the importance of respecting the legal process and refraining from any commentary that could prejudice the ongoing proceedings. The families of the deceased have called for peace within the community amidst these developments.
