Hyndburn Council Calls for M65 Safety Review

Hyndburn Council's deputy leader, Cllr Noordad Aziz, has called for an urgent safety review of the M65 motorway in East Lancashire following a series of fatal accidents. The proposed review aims to assess the entire motorway, not just the section between junctions five and eight, to identify potential safety improvements, including better lighting. Cllr Aziz's motion, supported by Tory leader Cllr Zak Khan, comes after multiple recent fatalities, including a three-car crash in early October that resulted in one death and five severe injuries. The review seeks to enhance overall road safety and mitigate risks for all users. This initiative has gained momentum after several serious incidents, prompting the council to reach out to Highways England and Lancashire County Council for action. Cllr Aziz emphasized the urgency of the review, citing the alarming frequency of accidents, both during the day and at night.
