Eddie Murphy has officially confirmed he will play Inspector Jacques Clouseau in a new Pink Panther film, after reports of his involvement circulated since 2023. The announcement was made on the Today show, where Murphy stated his Clouseau will be Black and likely French, but could also have Haitian heritage, representing a new, inclusive direction for the character. This role, originally made famous by Peter Sellers and later played by Steve Martin, is part of Murphy's current slate of projects, including Shrek 5 and a George Clinton biopic. Murphy also reflected on his career evolution, noting his shift from youthful roles to more mature ones. The Pink Panther franchise, celebrated for its slapstick comedy and iconic theme, will now feature Murphy's unique take on the legendary detective. The reboot aims to refresh the series with a modern perspective.
