A genetic test programme is being offered by the NHS in England to individuals with Jewish ancestry to identify those at a higher risk for certain cancers, particularly those with mutated BRCA genes. This population-based screening programme will provide early access to cancer detection services and preventative measures, and will make testing more accessible. The programme is estimated to identify 150% more carriers of the faulty BRCA gene and will be available to anyone over 18 with a Jewish grandparent.
