Massachusetts Rep. Flanagan Indicted on Federal Fraud Charges

Massachusetts State Rep. Christopher Flanagan was arrested on April 11 after being indicted on five counts of wire fraud and one count of falsification of records. Prosecutors allege he embezzled $36,000 from the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod during his tenure as executive officer, using the funds for personal expenses such as credit card bills, campaign costs, and even psychic services. U.S. Attorney Leah Foley described the alleged actions as a serious breach of public trust, highlighting Flanagan's efforts to cover up his misconduct by fabricating records. The investigation into Flanagan began following a complaint in October 2024, which led to a federal inquiry. Despite the charges, Flanagan won reelection in November 2024, capturing 56% of the vote against his Republican opponent. He is expected to appear in federal court later today to face the charges.
