Jennifer Konfrst announces congressional campaign for Iowa's 3rd District

Konfrst, a journalism professor at Drake University, cited her motivation stemming from the political climate since President Trump's second term and a desire to better represent Iowans who feel ignored and left behind by current leadership. She plans to step down as House Minority Leader but will serve as a state representative through her term. Konfrst emphasizes issues such as support for farmers, affordable healthcare, education, veterans' care, and protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits. The district is considered competitive, with political analysts labeling it a toss-up or leaning Republican, and the Democratic Congressional campaign arm has included it among targeted seats. Another Democrat, State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott, has also entered the primary race to challenge Nunn, who has yet to formally announce his re-election bid but recently ruled out a gubernatorial run.
