George Young Wins World Gravy Wrestling Championship

The World Gravy Wrestling Championships, held annually at the Rose 'N' Bowl pub in Rossendale, Lancashire, showcased its 16th edition with 16 male and 8 female competitors wrestling in a pool of gravy for two minutes. This quirky competition, deemed one of the top ten weirdest 'sports', aims to raise funds for the East Lancashire Hospice, with participants also supporting their chosen charities. Eighteen-year-old George Young emerged victorious, receiving a trophy and £100, and described the experience as rewarding, despite initial expectations of early elimination. The event featured colorful fancy dress costumes, with contestants being judged on their wrestling skills, attire, and entertainment value. Hundreds of spectators enjoyed the jovial atmosphere, cheering on participants like Hannah Havard, who donned a fluffy Dalmatian costume.
