Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has suspended operations to remove molten radioactive fuel from the Fukushima nuclear power plant due to a malfunction with the remote cameras on the extraction device. This procedure, which began last week, aimed to collect a small sample of highly radioactive material for analysis but faced delays from earlier technical problems. The extraction of approximately 880 tons of radioactive debris remains a significant challenge in the decommissioning process of the facility, which was severely damaged by the 2011 tsunami disaster. TEPCO is investigating the cause of the camera issue before resuming operations. The company had initially planned to start the removal process in August but encountered several setbacks. The situation continues to draw international attention, especially as Japan manages the complex aftermath of the nuclear accident.
