Lee Hsien Yang Plans 38 Oxley Road Demolition

Lee Hsien Yang announced his intention to demolish the family home at 38 Oxley Road, honoring the last wishes of his parents, following the recent death of his sister, Dr. Lee Wei Ling. He stated that he plans to build a small private dwelling on the site, which would remain in the family permanently. The house, once home to Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, was to be demolished immediately after Dr. Lee Wei Ling vacated it, according to her father's will. This decision comes amidst a long-standing dispute with their older brother, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, regarding the home's future. In 2018, a ministerial committee presented options for the property, but no final decision was made while Dr. Lee resided there. With her passing, Lee Hsien Yang feels it is his duty to fulfill his father's intentions to the fullest extent of the law.
