GE HealthCare invests $138M in Cork facility expansion

GE Healthcare has announced a $138 million investment to expand its contrast media manufacturing facility in Carrigtohill, Cork, Ireland, with a new state-of-the-art site expected to produce 25 million additional patient doses annually by 2027. The expansion comes in response to a projected doubling in global demand for iodine-based contrast media due to ageing populations and the increasing prevalence of chronic illnesses. The new facility will feature advanced automation systems and support both existing and pipeline products. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin attended the groundbreaking ceremony, highlighting GE's long-standing commitment to Ireland and its skilled workforce. The project will also create over 250 construction jobs, emphasizing the expansion's economic impact.
