Reds Draft Chase Burns at No. 2 Overall
The 2024 MLB Draft kicked off with notable selections from Wake Forest University, highlighted by Chase Burns being picked second overall by the Cincinnati Reds. Burns, a right-handed pitcher, had an impressive season with a 10-1 record, 2.70 ERA, and 191 strikeouts in 100 innings. He transferred from Tennessee and finished his collegiate career with a 3.21 ERA and 408 strikeouts in 252.1 innings. Nick Kurtz, a first baseman from Wake Forest, was selected fourth overall by the Oakland Athletics, and shortstop Seaver King went tenth overall to the Washington Nationals. Burns has the option to return to college for his senior season but would be a significant addition to the Reds if he decides to go pro.
