Louisville Breaks Ground Affordable Senior Housing Portland

Louisville is addressing its affordable housing shortage for seniors with the groundbreaking of the Roosevelt Senior Apartments in the Portland neighborhood, a project by New Directions Housing Corporation. The development will provide 36 affordable units for residents aged 62 and older, featuring income-aligned rents, ADA-compliant designs, and access to support services, with completion expected in fall 2026. This $8.9 million initiative is part of a broader local effort supported by federal and state funding, including a $5 million HUD loan, aimed at ensuring seniors can age in place with dignity. Officials including Congressman Morgan McGarvey and Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman emphasize the need for affordable housing across all age groups, noting that the city still requires tens of thousands of additional affordable units. In a related effort, Ontario is expanding long-term care capacity with the construction of The Village of Westbrook Lane, a 240-bed facility in Richmond Hill to open by 2027, supporting both health care access and economic growth. This project is part of Ontario’s plan to add or upgrade over 58,000 long-term care beds province-wide, incorporating modern amenities and specialized care units.
