Spain Deputy PM Survives Madrid Knife Attack, Suspect Arrested
Spain's Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Díaz was targeted in a broad daylight knife attack near the Ateneo Theatre on Prado Street in Madrid. The assailant approached Díaz and her bodyguards with two knives, even headbutting one of her security team before pulling the weapons from his backpack. Police reinforcements from the Centro Regional Police and the General Acquisition intervened, ultimately subduing the attacker with a Taser after he threatened to harm himself. The suspect was arrested and charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer and making serious threats. Streets were temporarily blocked due to the commotion and large crowd gathering at the scene. Díaz was not physically harmed but was informed about the incident afterward.
