Retired Indian hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has stressed the need for the national team to reduce its reliance on penalty corners and focus more on scoring field goals to secure Olympic medals. At the recent Paris Olympics, India scored 15 goals, of which only three were field goals, while nine came from penalty corners. Sreejesh highlighted that the top teams, like the Netherlands and Germany, achieved significantly more field goals, indicating a gap in India's offensive strategy. He remarked that while penalty corners are a strength, the team must adapt if they wish to compete at higher levels, noting that their defense has limitations compared to more disciplined teams like Germany. Sreejesh concluded his 18-year career after winning two consecutive Olympic bronze medals and believes that improving field goal scoring is essential for future success.
