American Red Cross Declares Blood Shortage Emergency

The American Red Cross is facing a national blood emergency exacerbated by severe weather, including the remnants of Hurricane Debby, which has led to the cancellation of nearly 60 blood drives and the loss of around 1,500 blood products. This summer has been particularly challenging for blood donations, with extreme weather events impacting about 90,000 blood donations annually.
