CPI Selects Sathyan Mokeri for Wayanad Bypoll
Sathyan Mokeri has been selected as the candidate for the Communist Party of India (CPI) in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll, following Rahul Gandhi's decision to vacate the seat in favor of retaining Rae Bareli. Mokeri, a former MLA known for his agricultural advocacy, will face Congress's Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is making her electoral debut in this constituency. The bypoll, necessitated by Gandhi's resignation, is scheduled for November 13, with results to be announced on November 23. BJP officials have criticized the Congress's stronghold on the area, alleging that residents have not benefitted from Gandhi's representation. Local Congress leaders have already initiated campaign efforts for Priyanka, while both the CPI and BJP are still finalizing their candidates. Wayanad has been a Congress bastion since its establishment in 2009, and the party aims to enhance its previous winning margin in the upcoming election.
