3 Killed Including Infant in Utah Carnival Shooting
A tragic shooting occurred at WestFest, an annual carnival in West Valley City, Utah, when a 16-year-old boy opened fire during a verbal altercation between two groups, killing three people including an 8-month-old infant, a 41-year-old woman bystander, and an 18-year-old man involved in the dispute. Five people in total were shot, including two teens who were hit in the arm and a pregnant woman who was injured while trying to flee by climbing a fence. Police officers at the event attempted to break up the confrontation when the shooting happened; one officer fired back but missed. The suspect was quickly taken into custody, though it remains unclear whether the shooting was gang-related. The carnival, which celebrates cultural diversity and the establishment of West Valley City, had an estimated attendance of 10,000 people, making the violence all the more shocking. Authorities continue to investigate and interview witnesses, urging anyone with information to come forward.
